Mountain biking through Wild Beauty Montenegro


This self-guided cycling tour takes you off the beaten path throught wild beauty of Montenegro. Explore in your own pace the UNESCO World HeritageSite, the Bay of Kotor, the biggest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar, National park Lovčen and stunning viewpoints all along your way. You stay overnight in small cosy hotels or B&B. Your luggage is transferred from place to place or you can also choose to rent panniers and bags. We provide you with information where to taste culinary delights along your way, so you get refreshed and in touch with locals.

Day 1 Arrival
Arrival at the Dubrovnik Airport. Welcoming at the airport and included joint transfer to Herceg Novi. Preparation of bicycles, possibly bike rental for the tour. Short tour around the town in Herceg Novi and dinner together.

Day 2 Orjen
Transfer to the starting point of the tour in Orjen. We go along the old military road over the Orjen Saddle towards Crkvice and then southwards, practically around the mountain. Along the wagon road, we turn towards Bunovici, and from there down to the Risan Bay and further to the baroque town of Perast. We will take the boat to visit the island of “Our Lady of the Rocks”, and we finally arrive in Tivat by boat. There we have our accommodation for the night.

Day 3 Vrmac - Budva
Over Vrmac and the southeast side of the Lovcen mountain towards Budva. From Tivat we go directly to Gornja Lastva, then along a military road to the top, down to the Vrmac fortress, over the Trojica Pass and along the villages towards Budva. Overnight stay in Budva.

Day 4 Sveti Stefan
Along the fantastic high level path overlooking the coast, we go from the fortress of Kosmac towards the monastery of Ogradenica and finally to the hotel-island of Sveti Stefan. With little height differences we arrive to the monastery of Ogradenica, where we might be invited by the local monks to try their homemade rakija and cheese. From there, we go along a steep macadam road towards the coast to Sveti Stefan. Overnight stay in Budva. Altitude:200 m

Day 5 NP Skadar
From the coast to the NP of Skadar Lake and towards Cetinje Along the adventurous, former railway line, we go relaxing towards the end, but with fantastic panorama over the coastal mountains over to Skadar Lake. We can have an adventurous ride through 600m long old railway tunnel. Along the lakeside road we go to the fishermen village of Virpazar. From there, we go by boat to Rijeka Crnojevića. Along a narrow road, we go further up to the former Royal Capital. A tour and opportunity for you to check out the relief map of Montenegro – it is impressive to be able to have a look at the kilometers already completed on the model of Montenegro in 1:600,000 scale. Overnight stay in Cetinje

Day 6 NP Lovcen
Along the old road towards the NP of Lovcen. We take the old military road to the mountain peak of Babina Glava with a fantastic panorama of the coast and we ride over Dolovi up to a couple of meters below the mountain peak of Jezerski Vrh, where we can see the entire Montenegro below our feet from the Mausoleum of the poet Njegos – an amazing view! A rapid descent brings us back to the heart of the National Park, to Njegusi, where we will stay for the night in simple bungalows.

Day 7 Kotor
From Ivanova Korita we ride along an old wagon road to the foot of Jezerski Vrh over the Trešnja Saddle to the old spring of Sanik and down towards Bukovica to the oldest café called "Kod Pera" which has been open for over 100 years every day. After refreshment, we will explore another adventurous military road route around Bogojeva Glava, before our pleasant ride down to Njegusi. Once again we go shortly uphill to the mountain pass of Krstac before we ride down the well-known Lovcen road to the UNESCO World Heritage, the Bay and the Old Town of Kotor. Sightseeing in Kotor. Dinner with seafood specialties in the Old Town of Kotor.

Day 8 Departure
