Istrian Delights - 4 days gourmet vacation in Istria, Croatia


Istria is a carefree combination of an active or quiet holiday destination and don't be surprised if it wins you over with its charm.
Should you choose Buje, Buzet, Motovun, Groznjan, you will find privacy and the silence of medieval towns – fortresses and familiarize yourself with the gastronomy and wine making. Motovun is a small town in the interior part of Istria, with a green Istrian landscape and wine roads that also plays host to many film festivals. Buzet is an authentic Istrian town that was settled in ancient history and is known as the town of truffles.
If you come to Istria, you will see for yourself why they refer to Istria as the "Tuscany of Croatia. " The interior part of the region with its characteristic stone architecture and small towns situated on hills create a peaceful and relaxing environment. The interior part of Green Istria will greet you with a rich agrotourism offer and untouched nature.


Arrival in Istria, meeting with guide and presentation of programme. Our gastronomic tour will start with Istrian dinner in a typical stylish tavern. You have opportunity to taste istrian ham and cheese, home made pasta and meat. with potatoes, accompanied with good wine and istrian supa with red wine.Retunrn in hotel for overnight.

Breakfast, drive to Motovun - one of most interesting medieval towns.Culinary agree only on one thing – truffle in gastronomy is on top level. Unusual underground hidden bulb, with no plant above ground is very difficult to find. Only, a well trained dog can sniff them. Truffles grow in grey soil, in woody humid area of Motovun in the valley Mirna. Exactly that is where we go with a truffler and with his well dressed dogs seeking his majesty –truffle. During our 1,5 hour walk through the forest truffler will tell us all the secrets and particulars about truffles. After that, 4-courses lunch will be served on base of truffles followed with wine in a specialized restaurant. Visiting one of the best wine cellars in Istria, we will get acquainted with procedure of wine production and tasting of white, red and sweet wine.Return in hotel and overnight.

Breakfast, Today we will visit town of Rovinj. Feel the enchantment of the town in its narrow medieval streets and warm Mediterranean setting. The main Church of St. Euphemia keeps relics of the saint and presents one of the most beautiful Baroque achievements in Istria. From the church plateau there is a wonderful view of the open sea and numerous islets in the distance. A visit to the Rovinj Town Museum and the town's many galleries will complete your cultural experience. After sightseeing we proceed towards Lim fjord, due to his untouched Mediterranean vegetation and extraordinary rich sea life, a real Nature reserve. This Fjord penetrates the inland for 10 kilometers. Natural conditions offer breading many kinds of fish and mussels. Before lunch we sail along the Lim fjord where you will have opportunity to visit oyster farm and to taste fresh oysters. 3 courses fish menu will be served in a fish restaurant. After lunch we will visit olive-groves and oil mill, where we will be acquainted with procedure of olive oil production and you have opportunity to taste olive oil. Return in hotel and overnight.

What is the accommodation going to be like?
You'll mainly stay in small, locally-run,3 star hotels and guesthouses, which reflect the character of the area.
What is the food like?
Breakfasts are generally buffets that take your active program into consideration with a variety of low-fat and high-nutrition choices. Lunch is included and organized in local taverns and specialized restaurants.  Dinners are included and served in hotels. If you have any allergies, restrictions or strong preferences, please let us know as far in advance as possible.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as Istria is extremely popular over the summer months.
When is the best time of year?
Traditionally April/May/June and September/October have always been the most popular time of year because the weather is better. July and August is better to avoid as it can be too hot for walking and towns and beaches are overcrowded.


When do I get my tour documents?

You receive tour documents, including your hotel list and information on how to get to your starting town and hotel, tour operator contacts, packing tips, and other helpful information, about 2-3 weeks before your tour. You get packets with maps, route instructions, and sightseeing information at your start hotel.

What is the size of the group on a guided tour?

We usually take between four and twelve guests on each guided tour. If we have a larger group, we'll have additional leaders so that we can split up if necessary. With this size of group, we can cater for individual needs and still ensure the whole party is well looked after.

How knowledgeable and experienced is the Group Leader?

The local guides undergo extensive training in all aspects of travel in the region. They are full-time professionals and are selected for their empathy and knowledge of the area you are visiting.

Which is the best airport?

Pula is the best airport to fly into and then you can catch the bus or we can arrange private taxi transfers to Poreč. If you fly into Venice airport you can catch ferry from Venice to Poreč which regulary connecting Venice and Poreč. Ticket must be booked in advance (by us). From Ljubljana/Triest or Zagreb airport we can organise you private transfer.
